Biographical Information

Dr. D'Avolio is the coordinator of the Acute Care Specialty. She joined the Institute in 1999 to develop and implement the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Specialty. Her areas of teaching expertise include acute care, health assessment and violence intervention. 

 

In addition to teaching and practicing as an acute care nurse practitioner, Dr. D'Avolio serves as a member of the Healthcare sub-committee on the Governor's Commission on Domestic Violence and the Department of Public Health's Sexual Assault Advisory Board. She is a former president of the Massachusetts Emergency Nurses Association. In 2001, Dr. D'Avolio received the Partners in Excellence Award for her work in the development of the MGH Institute of Health Professions/MGH Critical Care Certificate Program.

 

Dr. D'Avolio's research includes intimate partner violence and healthcare systems' responses to the needs of violence survivors. She is a National Institutes of Health, NRSA Research Fellow, 1999-2003 for her work on violence research. Her professional memberships include Sigma Theta Tau International, Massachusetts Nurses Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
