Dr. Chisholm, an experienced nursing education administrator, joined the Institute in 2003 as Director of the Graduate Program in Nursing. Prior to that, she served as Interim Dean for the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of the Bouve College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University, where she previously had served as Coordinator of the psychiatric mental health nursing specialty and Director for the Graduate Program in Nursing. She served as Associate Dean at Boston University School of Nursing responsible for Academic Affairs and Programs, and she taught at Harvard University Department of Psychiatry, Cambridge Hospital.

 

Dr. Chisholm is a child adolescent psychiatric-mental health Clinical Nurse Specialist  and a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology in the area of family psychology. She has served as the President of the Society for Education and Research in Psychiatric Nursing and Chair of the Education Council of the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses. She received the Excellence in Education Award from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association for her work addressing the integration of mental health into primary care. She has worked to address diversity leadership opportunities with professional nursing organizations, advocating for mentoring relationships between students, diverse professionals and nursing faculty.  Her research interests include substance abuse and psychobiological aspects of mental illness, aggression and the elderly, and reactions to catastrophic illness.  Dually licensed as a nurse and clinical psychologist, she has participated in interdisciplinary teaching and curriculum development throughout her academic career.
