Biographical Information

Dr. Cahill Lawrence is recognized for her research on premenstrual syndrome and her collaborative work in fatigue in patients with HIV. She teaches one of the interdisciplinary clinical research courses.

Dr Cahill Lawrence has been working with the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) in Mthatha Eastern Cape of South Africa for the past 7 years. In 2005 a formal Memorandum of Understanding was signed that calls for collaboration on projects of mutual interest to the Institute and to WSU. Projects undertaken to date include development of a masters program to prepare HIV specialized Family Nurse Practitioners at WSU. The program was developed by a team of IHP faculty and WSU faculty. The team was led by Dr. Cahill Lawrence and Professor Nobusuthu Sokhela. An intensive 3 week clinical experience for IHP students in the rural clinics near WSU has been proposed but requires administrative approval before it can be offered. R. Cahill Lawrence and other IHP faculty members are developing collaborative research projects with WSU faculty.

Dr. Cahill Lawrence was the first appointee to the Amelia Peabody Professorship and has held that position since September 1993. The Amelai Peabody Professorship was created to serve three goals: to carry on a program of research/scholarship; to assist other IHP faculty to develop programs of research/scholarship; to teach and mentor IHP students in research/scholarship.
